Sanda Island For Sale
Your vote counts. Please vote on this page. Thanks.
We were going to put an offer in to buy the whole island as our (not for profit) group of Unique Property Bulletin friends have lived locally on the islands of Davaar + Arran + Ailsa Craig + Islay for most of their lives.
But after a great deal of thought, our director + community of lighthouse owners headed by Russ McLean (here) only need ONE house. We feel that if we bought the whole island that would be a wee bit greedy of us.
=> After further discussion, we believe that “Vote B” would be the fairest as several other families could also live on Sanda Island.
Crucially, our director has owned ferries such as the former CalMac ship, the MV Lochmor. Consequently, he would intend placing a regular, publicly accessible ferry such as the ones that go to Ailsa Craig Island and the Holy Isles by Arran , so that folk who live and visit Argyll can come to Sanda Island without any impediment.
There will be a protocol whereby SSSI areas of Sanda are, of course protected. But there are sufficient areas where it is most acceptable to visit.
=> We believe the island of Sanda should be opened up to folk who wish to visit. Vote B would be the most efficient way to get the best of both worlds between the two other choices.
gwill be voting “B” but it is best to ask others what they think and listen.
lease can you vote on your view of whether you think Sanda Island should be…
Vote A]. Sold for £2,758,350 to ONE person/couple (or one company) and generally closed to public access?
Or…
Vote B]. Sold at just £295,000 to £395,000 per house + 2 acres of land to go with each house and will be open to sustainable and community access for local folk plus visitors to Argyll. Including a regular ferry, similar to the Holy Isle on by the Island of Arran?
Or…
C]. Sold to a “Community Right To Buy” entity to promote sustainable access for the local community and visitors to Argyll?
Given the experiences of the Isle of Gigha Community Buyout and challenges plus difficulties, (The Herald: “When A Dream Turns Sour”: click here, we would recommend a simpler solution for Sanda Island and VOTE “B” in the following online ballot…

We started Unique Property Bulletin 39 years ago on Davaar Island. Then migrated across to Ailsa Craig Island around 1999. It is a source of huge regret that on 29th November 2000 we sold our Ailsa Craig Island Lighthouse Station to Bobby Sandhu. In the 24 years since we sold the Ailsa Craig Island Lighthouse Station (click here), the builllllllldings have become utterly and totally derelict.
We sold the Ailsa Craig buildings as it was a
