The writer was serving as a harbourmaster at the Argyll side of the North Chanel at the time.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Efforts to restart this ferry service were (and still are) crucial to the economies of<\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0Argyll and Antrim campaign on either side of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.co.uk\/search?q=%22north+channel%22+ferry+route+ireland+scotland&amp;biw=1280&amp;bih=888&amp;source=lnms&amp;tbm=isch&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=0ahUKEwjM2PO7mazJAhWDdQ8KHYEvBMwQ_AUIBygC#tbm=isch&amp;q=campbeltown+ballycastle+ferry+map&amp;imgrc=z_64XZRHdDqW3M%3A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">North Channel.<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/russmclean.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/MV-Sound-of-Islay.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-179\" src=\"http:\/\/russmclean.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/MV-Sound-of-Islay.jpg\" alt=\"MV Sound of Islay\" width=\"500\" height=\"315\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>MV Sound of Islay<\/em>: Commissioned By Friend, Mentor &amp; Fellow Company Director John Rose<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This ship inaugurated the car ferry service between Argyll &amp; Antrim in 1970 &amp; ran until 1973. I<\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">n 1988 John Rose &amp; Russ McLean commenced efforts to restart the route (more on this later).<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is testament that in the days before the \u201ceasy petition\u201d via internet and social media, back when EVERY signature had to be obtained by speaking to a person, the good people of Campbeltown and Argyll mustered\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/ejFNH\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3,323<\/a><\/span>\u00a0people to sign a petition supporting CalMac.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;
