Davaar Island – The Old Lookout

Birthplace of Unique Property Bulletin

The Old Lookout Coastguard Station

For Five Pounds (£5)  Per Year

The £5 was on the basis he would renovate this building. He did and the Lease lasted several years (from 1984 to the 1990s), all of which were very enjoyable…

Birthplace of Argyll Group plc + Unique Property Bulletin Ltd., and eventually Scotslion Ltd.

This was our FIRST renovation and it resulted in several years of bliss, plus an addiction to living on small islands (well smaller than the island where our managing director was brought up ~ the Island of Arran).

If the Island of Arran is where the soul is, then Davaar Island is where the heart resides.

Though the place was ruinous when we walked through the front door in 1984…

This building was our first proper “unique” property and the inspiration for the Unique Property Bulletin.

Though it is fair to say, the location had a huge influence on us to. Indeed you too may be amongst our growing group,of island dwellers in the making (adventures to come soon enough).

Almost full-circle with the 78th building we bought (derelict) and renovated. Our MD is now 65 and looking to semi-retire…

Only one project every two years instead of two projects every one year!

He is looking to hand the baton to the Next Generation...

There are of course unique properties to balance the more commercially oriented buildings…

This was just one building within our Noss Head Lighthouse Station (bought on 23rd May 2017)…

P.S. We surrendered our lease on the old Lookout in the mid 1990s.

But you can now go for holidays on the island, though PLEASE contact Mr & Mrs Turner before going across as the causeway can be very dangerous. We lost a very good friend who was caretaker on the island. Len Bennett was driving his Landrover back across to the island at the beginning of January 2008 and got into difficulties. Len knew the causeway better than most and if it can catch out an experienced person such as Len, then we would strongly advise folk to get in touch with the owners of the island before venturing across…

Last but not least, here is a lovely wee video shot by a very nice couple who appear to have become as smitten as we were about this beautiful island…
